Theories of visual perception ( Gesalt Theory )

  2. Developed by German psychologists in the 1920s
  3. Similarity- object look similar to one another.
  4. Group or pattern.
  5. Same characteristics.
  • Proximity
  1. Proximity occurs when elements are placed close together.
  2. Things which are closer together will be seen as belonging together.
  • Continuation
  1. Eye is compelled to move through one object and continue to another object.
  • Closure
  1. When an object is complete or a shape is not completely enclosed.
  2. If enough of the shape is indicated, people perceive the whole by filling in the missing information.
  • Figure and Ground
  1. The eye differentiates an object from its surrounding area, a form, silhouette, or shape is naturally perceived as figure ( object), while the surrounding are in perceived.
